Very small., Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Fenix E05 Led Flashlight (Sports) I bought this light to replace a Mag lite Solitaire. The Fenix E05 is substantially brighter, and slightly smaller. It is only slightly bigger than the AAA battery it runs off of. It is able to light up small rooms rather impressively. It also has a much whiter light, which I prefer. My one minor gripe is that it is perfectly round, which means it can roll, but since this will be attached to a key chain I don't really care. I have not yet tested the battery life. Before purchasing this light I compared it to the Fenix E01 (about 13 dollars) and the LD01R2 (about 40 dollars) I paid 20 dollars for the E05. All three run on a single AAA batteries, and are increasingly bright 10(E01) 28(E05) 80(LD01R2) lumens respectively. Their battery life also reflects the brightness(the brighter they are the lower battery life they have). I think for 20 dollars this is the ideal balance of brightness and runtime. Even if they were the same price, I am not sure I would go with the LD01R2... Here are the only things I noticed from my quick comparison: The R2 has a warmer (like incandescent) output compared to the R4. The R2 has a beautiful and very uniform output, but the R4 has slightly "more perfect" diffusion. While I think I'd probably prefer (barely) the R4 over the R2, if more than $5 separated the two I would recommend the less expensive R2. My E05 R4 was a gift, and I didn't face certain financial concerns/constraints. For most people, I think the difference between the R2 and R4 is kind of like splitting hairs. In summary, the E05 is my "must have" light. For that role, the E05 is the best, because it's smaller than anything else. It's pretty much the exact girth of a AA battery, and about 20% longer than one. The weight is neglible.The other thing that separates the E05 from other mini lights is that it is designed to throw a floodlight style beam. The beam doesn't project as far, but the light is a nice, even circle of white light, without any hot spot in the center. This makes it ideal for the most common task an EDC light will be asked to perform -- watching where you're walking. You don't have to aim the light down at your feet. |
